Fasting- The Strength To Change Our Actions (John 3)

"...the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil." -John 3:19

Had I written the Bible (thank God I didn't!) I would have surely written this passge this way: "...because men loved darkness rather than light, their deeds are evil". In fact, I have read this passsage that way several times. What it actually says, however, is that because we want to protect the deeds we do and don't want to change, we then choose to love darkness rather than light. Sometimes we will go to great lengths to protect the things we do, even when we know they are wrong! Why do we do that??? Because our flesh nature, which is controlled by our enemy Satan, wants to keep us in bondage. We can never experience true freedom until we are willing to confess our sins, faults, wrong feelings and actions, and instead embrace God's Word in every matter in our lives.

My friend Robb Thompson's spiritual journey is such a great testimony. He gave his life to Christ in a mental institution! He recalls the day when he realized that EVERYTHING he believed about God AND life were wrong. No holding onto past patterns of thinking or feeling or past information...Robb instead made it his life's mission to replace EVERYTHING he thought with what the Bible taught. That's true humility and true wisdom. During our 21 day fast, ask yourself, "What is it that I'm holding on to that the Holy Spirit is trying to get rid of? What is it that I think or believe that I know is wrong, but if I change what I think, I'll have to change what I do? Today, stop clutching it and let the Holy Spirit do His work in your life.

Indeed....the FALSE joy that comes from evil envelopes a man in darkness, keeping him from a greater and more TRUE purpose.
