Every day isn't a "big prayer" day. Yes, we need God's Presence every day, but there are those times in our lives when we need BIG prayers answered. Are we ready to pray BIG prayers when those days come?
On the day the Lord gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the Lord in front of all the people of Israel. He said, “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day. There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!- Joshua 10:12-14
No, Joshua didn't pray that the sun would stand still EVERY day, but he was able to pray that BIG prayer when he needed to. How can we prepare our lives in 2012 to pray BIG prayers?
1. Have BIG faith- covered yesterday.
2. Pursue BIG goals. Don't pursue average. If average is your goal, you will always
be struggling to meet it! Remember: In pursuing greatness, average is
automatically attained.
3. Focus on a BIG God. Some people don't make room in their faith for a BIG God to
work. Instead, God has to work everything out the way THEY see it..."I want THIS
job on THIS date with THIS pay on THESE days with THESE benefits with a boss that
has THIS color hair! Don't get me wrong, you should pray very specific prayers.
Just remember that God has a vast universe of possibilities out there for you. But
if your situation doesn't turn out exactly as you've prayed, don't get an attitude
with God. Instead, remember that He sees the end from the beginning and knows what
will REALLY meet the needs of our situation, even better than we do.
I interviewed for a job (15+ years ago) that I was perfect for; it was the
same thing I had done for a non-profit a couple years before but this job
was full time with the government. We had been taught about speaking the
Word and believing it, being active in our faith, for a few years and I
claimed this job as my own and stood firm. But I didn't get it. I was
confused but soon after another job fell into my lap that I loved and I
worked there for 10 years. Four years after I had taken this other job we
hired a woman whose best friend had gotten "my job.." She said that boss
had a baby the next year and completely changed, shifting a lot of extra
work on her friend, not allowing her off when her children were sick, and
was generally very difficult to work for. I was so thankful that God did
not give me "that perfect job" and so grateful that He sent someone to me
who knew the rest of the story. Thank God that He allows us to walk in
proactive faith but give a bigger Amen that He is Sovereign and protects us
even when we don't understand what's going on.
